COUPEVILLE HISTORIC WATERFRONT ASSOCIATION EVENTS 

MARCH – Penn Cove Mussel Festival Hosts, Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association and Penn Cove Shellfish Farm. “Bold, briny and blue,” the world famous mussels are the centerpiece of two days of festivities, including chowder tasting and mussel eating competitions, music, mussel farm tours (it’s aquaculture) and activities for all ages. OCTOBER – Torchlight Halloween Parade– Host, Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association. The biggest halloween parade in the region. People from 6 island communities and beyond converge in costume for a walking parade along the Coupeville’s historic waterfront, gathering candy as they go. Be forewarned the costume contest is nothing but stiff competition.

Pumpkin Races – Host, Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association. Decorated, carved and wheel driven pumpkins rule the day! Double axel’s required. Competition is very stiff! Lots of good hearted fun.

NOVEMBER – Ginger Bread Workshop – Co-Host, Friends of the Coupeville Library. Sunday after Thanksgiving, families gather to build gingerbread houses. Kits are provided and a sweet time is had by all.

DECEMBER – Red Ticket – Shop, Dine and Stay Co-Hosts, Coupeville Chamber of Commerce, Whidbey Island Bank and Whidbey Weekly. November through December. Every 20.00 worth of purchases at participating businesses grants you a red ticket and a chance to win big in the Red Ticket Drawing the Sunday before Christmas. 1 lucky shopper wins $1500.00, 1 wins $500 and 3 win $100 each. A decades long Coupeville tradition.

PHOTOS WITH SANTA AND FOOD BANK DRIVE – Host’s, Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association and SANTA. Date changes each year. Always on a Sunday. Bring the whole family and some non-perishable foods for a visit and photos with SANTA! Santa loves to see the kids (and adults) for a visit. He wants to hear what your most wanted Christmas gifts are and have you help him fill the Gifts of the Heart Food Bank’s winter pantry.

Coupeville Chocolate Walk – Host, Coupeville Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber invites anyone who loves chocolate to join them each February for their Annual Chocolate Walk. Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Coupeville. Stroll the historic waterfront, eat chocolate, and enjoy our shops.

MAY

The Penn Cove Water Festival – Host, Penn Cove Water Festival Association. The Waterfest features annual tribal canoe races, Native arts and crafts, demonstrations, storytelling, dance performances, artist demonstrations, authentic Native foods, children’s activities, and exhibits and displays. Memorial Day Parade, Concert and Picnic Host, Coupeville Chamber of Commerce. One of the longest running Memorial Day parades in Washington, Coupeville’s Memorial Day parade includes representatives from all arms of the military, community organizations, supporting businesses and non-profits. Parade is followed by a program and concert. One of Coupeville’s most wonderful annual events.

AUGUST

Coupeville Arts and Crafts FestivalHost, Coupeville Festival Association. The Coupeville Arts and Crafts Festival is held in Coupeville each summer for over 50 years running. Art, artists, makers from all over Washington and beyond converge to make this one of the best art festivals in Washington. Always great art, and weather! facebook

SEPTEMBER

Whidbey Island Kite Festival – Host’s Whidbey Island Kite Festival Association and Whidbey Island Kite Fliers. Set at Camp Casey and against the majestic backdrop of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound, the kite festival features impressive ground and air displays of color and imagination. Activities include kids’ kitemaking, beginning sportkite lessons, and sportkite demonstrations. Highlight of the weekend is the Whidbey Island Sport Kite Championships, one of the premier sportkite competitions in the Pacific Northwest. Competition takes place both Saturday and Sunday. The Whidbey Island Sport Kite Championships is an AKA-sanctioned (www.kite.org) event.

OCTOBER

Haunting of Coupeville – Host, Coupeville Chamber of Commerce. Scary fun brews in Coupeville throughout October. Multiple events and fun for the family all month long!  facebook

Race the Reserve – Host, Coupeville High School Parents. Proceeds support a safe and sober graduation night for Coupeville High School Seniors. Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K run through south side of the historic seaport community of Coupeville. Unique opportunity to traverse both Ebey’s Prairie and Crockett Prairie within Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve offering spectacular, panoramic ocean, mountain and prairie farmland views. facebook

NOVEMBER

Community Thanksgiving. Hosted by a group of volunteers and community cooks. Annual Thanksgiving potluck held from noon to 2pm at the Coupeville Rec Hall. Turkey’s and Ham’s provided by generous citizens. Bring a dish to share. 2021 date to be decided.  facebook

Gingerbread Challenge – Hosts Coupeville Library and Friends of the Coupeville Library. Beginning Monday after Thanksgiving the Coupeville Library and Friends of the Coupeville Library accept gingerbread creations for this annual challenge. Sip ‘n’ Shop On the Cove – Host, Coupeville Chamber of Commerce. A Sip ‘n’ Shop ticket gets you a bag that includes a special gift, a ticket for 8 tastings, two free drawing tickets, and a list and map of participating businesses who are offering Sip ‘n’ Shop ticket holders special offers.

DECEMBER

Jingle Trail Run – Host, Coupeville Chamber of Commerce. First Saturday of each December. Start the day with an invigorating family friendly run THEN come to the Town Greening, Lighting and Christmas Parade. Perfect way to ring in the season and enjoy Coupeville.
