“Shop Local” is not a fad, it’s the economic back bone of countless small businesses and livelihoods  in towns just like Coupeville.

For every $25.00 spent at a local business $17.00 stays in our local economy. Only $10.50 stays when we shop away from home, a loss of 7 dollars.

Small businesses – like those in Coupeville – account for 99.7% of all businesses in the US.

Small businesses donate 250% more than larger businesses to non-profits and community causes.

Small businesses accounted for 60% of new jobs created in the U.S.

There are 28.8 million small businesses in the country. Some of them are right here in Coupeville! Shop local – gather Red Tickets – and let’s ring out the year with a huge boost for our economy, our business owning friends and neighbors and the winners of the Red Ticket’s $2300.00

May is National Preservation Month

Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association is joining the National Trust and Main Street towns all over the country to celebrate with three words that say it all: This. Place. Matters.

TPM_Twitter_Shareable_v2

Everyone has places that are important to them. On Whidbey Island and in Coupeville we are especially proud of our history, and our preservation of our historic properties and places.  We care about them all!

cropped-img_25241

This Place Matters is national campaign that encourages us to celebrate the places that are meaningful to us and our communities.

cropped-library02.jpg

Help us share our special places with the National Trust and the country by sharing your “This Place Matters” photos to our Facebook page.

But, this campaign isn’t just about photography. It’s also about telling the stories or describing a feeing about the places in Coupeville (and on Whidbey) that matter to you.  Please include a sentence, a paragraph, a story or even a poem with your photos.

Visit our Coupeville History page to find out about the historic building photos (only ones located in our historic district) you share on our Facebook page

YOU can also visit the Island County Archives and Museum for books about our history.

Through This Place Matters, we hope to encourage and inspire the ongoing love and continued preservation of Coupeville through pictures and comments.

YES, share from all over Whidbey!  We’ll be sharing with the National Historic Trust and are happy to include every square mile of our beautiful isle.

Preservation Month is an excellent opportunity to shine a spotlight on all the special places that are important to you.
