It’s been a bang up week for newness in Coupeville.

The second new shop to open in Coupeville is a huge winner for our historic Waterfront.

Marbley opened on Saturday, August 10th, and is located at 7 Front Street in the circa 1936 Howell’s building.

Owners Joan and Ed, visited Coupeville in 2017 and fell in love with #7 Front Street. With the intention to redirect their energy, after 20 years in the restaurant and hospitality industries, and raise their son in a smaller community Ed and Joan have embraced Coupeville in excited and generous ways.

Since 2017 they sold their restaurant in So. California, bought a house within walking distance of #7, and renovated the old Howell building for their shop Marbley!

Marbley blends beautifully curated personal and gift items with silk scarfs made through the ancient art form of Ebru* (read description of this art form below). BONUS at Marbley, YOU can make your own scarf!

*Ebru is a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to smooth marble, other kinds of stone or patterns of your choosing. The patterns are the result of non-toxic colored paints floated on plain water and then carefully transferred to a silk scarf. Through several centuries, people have applied marbled materials to a variety of surfaces. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monotype. THIS is truly something special for Coupeville.

NOTE: We have a couple of other new businesses ventures in Coupeville and are putting together images and copy for the blog.

We’re excited to be sharing the news of one of two new shops in Coupeville!

In an town our size with 19 buildings on Front St. and only several more in our historic catchment, new shops don’t often come around along our historic waterfront. And yet, THIS MONTH we have TWO (with at least one more coming SOON). Celebrate Good Times Come ON!

FIRST new shop to open, on Friday, August 9th, is Rain Puddles Kids Boutique! Owned by Christian Chambers, who also owns Aqua Gifts just a few doors away, Rain Puddles is located at 10 Front St. in the newly renovated Robertson Store/Old Mad Crab building.

Rain Puddles is a smartly sourced boutique full of baby and children’s clothes and accessories. Christian has gone to great lengths to insure his products are made of whole and safe fabrics and surfaces, with safe, with NO chemicals added to fibers or sprayed on. From clothes to blankets, back packs, hats, accessories and more Rain Puddles was an instant hit with residents and visitors alike.

We may be biased but we think this shop is one of the sweetest places on Whidbey Island.

Coupeville, Coupeville Front St., Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association, Coupeville Washington, Wifi Coupeville

With the commitment of our members, and volunteers, we are able to provide free Wifi to our historic downtown.  Having Wifi helps both resident and visitor alike.

Recently we made a decision to give our Wifi a stronger presence and added to the number of repeaters we have on Front St.

THANKS TO our volunteers, Randy Chambers, Jason Magee, and Denis Hill for installation of the additional repeater, and Front Street Grill for their generosity in allowing us to mount it on their building.

A WiFi repeater or extender is used to extend the coverage area of your WiFi network. It works by receiving your existing WiFi signal, amplifying it and then transmitting the boosted signal.

As a Historic Waterfront member and volunteer Denis Hill guided us through our project to get Wifi to our downtown. Now that we’ve had it for several year he now monitors the system and guides us in our necessary upgrades! Thanks Denis.
