Sound Water Stewards Wharf Exhibit

The wharf is the home of 3 businesses and a wonderful educational exhibit installed and maintained by the Sound Water Stewards, and ideal for all ages.

Come to the Wharf to learn about Rosie the Gray Whale, Handsome Samson – the Steller Sea Lion, Rudy the Dall’s Porpoise, and much more about Penn Cove and regional waters.

Sound Water Stewards are trained volunteers working in and around Island County toward a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound environment through education, community outreach, stewardship, and citizen science.

YOU can be a Sound Water Steward. Attend the annual training program for new volunteers – 80 hours of expert training from top professionals, plus 20 hours of hands on training. Both new and old volunteers work on a variety of projects in keeping with our mission (some programs are entirely SWS-run, many are with aligned groups or researchers in the Puget Sound region).

Founded in 1989 as the Island County Beach Watchers a program within the Washington State University Extension, they became an independent non-profit organization in January of 2016 operated by an all volunteer Board of Directors.
