Just one week ago we celebrated our town and our Penn Cove mussels with the annual Penn Cove MusselFest. “Bold, briny and blue,” Coupeville’s world famous mussels were, once again, the centerpiece of this fantastic event.

Another centerpiece (we have so many) is the Mussel Chowder Contest.  A key and tasty ingredient of our festival.  Local restaurant’s presented secret mussel chowder recipes for visitors who traveled from restaurant to restaurant to taste and vote for their favorite!

THE WINNER IS – June Blouin, of Coupeville Coffee and Bistro, who cooked up the winning chowder.  Here’s June accepting the coveted Best Chowder MusselFest 2014 award from CHWA President Chuck Poust.

Congratulations to June and her staff!  It sure was a tasty treat!  A two time winner, June has the muscle for chowder on Whidbey!

Coupeville Coffee and Bistro is a place for great coffee, tea, breakfast and lunch – AND WINNING MUSSEL CHOWDER!

Restaurants participating in the 2014 Mussel Chowder contest included:
Brett’s Bread
Christopher’s on Whidbey
Coupeville Coffee & Bistro
Ebey Bowl
Front Street Grill
Kim’s Cafe
Knead and Feed
Mosquito Fleet
The Oystercatcher
Pra Nakorn Thai Cuisine
Pizza Factory
The Captain Whidbey Inn
Toby’s Tavern
The Tyee

THANKS to all of these local restaurants, their owners and staff for making MusselFest 2014’s Chowder Contest another great, and tasty, success.

Runner up was Kim’s Cafe on the Wharf!  Great job!
